Polybutadiene Rubber (PBR 1220)

Poly Butadiene Rubber 1220 PBR, which stands for Poly Butadiene Rubber, is a polymer composed of the polymerization process of 3,1-butadiene monomer, has a high resistance to abrasion and is used especially in the production of rubber, also as an additive for Improved mechanical strength used.

It is the second largest volume synthetic rubber produced, next to styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), with about a quarter global consumption of synthetic rubber. This polymer is very similar to natural rubber, polyisoprene. The main use of this polymer is an alternative to EPDM. It is used to viscose industrial oils.

It is also suitable for applications dealing with low temperatures. The storage temperature of this polybutadiene rubber 1220 PBR should not exceed 30 ° C. Polybutadiene has excellent abrasion resistance (good tread wear), low hysteresis loss, high elasticity, and low rolling resistance due to its low glass transition temperature (Tg), typically <−90 °C. However, this also leads to a poor wet traction properties, so, usually, BR is blended with other elastomers like natural rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber for tread compounds.
